Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel specialising in construction law to join our clients' growing team. The ideal candidate would be UK common law qualified with a minimum of 6–10 years of post-qualification experience (PQE). This role requires extensive knowledge and experience in FIDIC contracts, arbitration, contract review and drafting, NDAs, and dispute prevention. The successful candidate will provide expert legal advice and support to the clients' real estate and construction projects across the UAE.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Review and Drafting:
Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of construction-related contracts, including FIDIC contracts and NDAs, ensuring compliance with legal standards and company policies. - Arbitration and Dispute Resolution:
Manage and oversee arbitration proceedings and other dispute resolution processes, providing strategic advice to minimise risks and resolve conflicts efficiently. - Legal Advisory:
Provide expert legal advice on construction law matters, including risk management, regulatory compliance, and contractual obligations. - Dispute Prevention:
Develop and implement strategies to prevent disputes, including proactive contract management and stakeholder engagement. - Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant laws and regulations in the UAE. - Stakeholder Management:
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including project managers, contractors, and external legal counsel, to ensure successful project delivery. - Training and Development:
Conduct training sessions for staff on legal issues related to construction law and contract management.
Qualifications and Experience:
- UK common law qualified lawyer.
- Minimum of 6–10 years PQE in construction law.
- Extensive experience with FIDIC contracts, NDAs, and arbitration.
- Proven track record in contract review, drafting, and dispute prevention.
- Experience working in a reputable construction company or a multinational private practice firm in their construction practice.
- Strong understanding of UAE construction laws and regulations.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in the UAE or the Middle East region.
- Fluency in Arabic is an advantage but not required.
